Swift
Creek is Niceville's natural place to live
Amenities include parks, a nature trail and unspoiled natural beauty
April-May 2001 - Out of the Blue
Picture a nearly 4-mile long nature trail where, at many points, the only sounds that can be heard are the springtime songs of native birds, the babbling of an adjacent creek and the south wind as it drifts lazily through the upper branches of the surrounding trees. As the sun sets, white tail deer stroll out of the woods to graze on the succulent spring clover flourishing along the roadway less than a quarter mile away. Nearby, there's a carefully laid out family park and unique play area for children that includes a large water fountain that youngsters eagerly stand under on hot summer days. Two larger community parks and a pond will be completed in the near future, as will a pool and tennis courts.
A new state park? No, it's Swift Creek, Ruckel Properties' newest residential community in Niceville. This award-winning master planned neighborhood designed by internationally renowned community planner David Jensen, is nestled in a lushly wooded area on Partin Drive, just south of College Boulevard.
Adjacent to a nature preserve, Swift Creek is being developed with the nature lover in mind. Each homesite offers its own unique canvas of natural landscaping. There are wetlands, creeks, natural vegetation and wildlife to enjoy. There's a wonderful peacefulness in the air and a sense of tranquility and comfort that is enhanced by the graceful winding streets, neighborly custom homes, gently rolling hills and natural beauty that only Swift Creek can offer.
Swift Creek makes the most of the natural beauty of the area and its remarkable rolling, hilly terrain. The homesites are various shapes and dimensions with both level and sloping landscapes. The rear sloping lots accommodate terrace rear elevations, thus allowing builders to construct a wide variety of innovative multi-level custom homes. Many of the homesites back up to a creek or wetlands and enjoy the privacy of the untouched woods off the nature preserve. The abundant variety of vegetation and elevations on many of the sloping Swift Creek homesites mean that builders can creatively design homes from which families can truly enjoy out-of-doors, whether inside or outside of their homes.
As you might imagine, the custom homes at Swift Creek are as extraordinary as Swift Creek itself. Just like each artist's brush stroke is combined with others to create a masterpiece, each custom home in this master planned community plays a vital role in the overall Swift Creek design scheme. No two homes are alike in any one phase of the development and each must pass Swift Creek's high architectural standards and strict review board. Swift Creek's developers have carefully hand selected two preferred builders. Each has an outstanding reputation and is a highly acclaimed winner of the Building Industry Association's annual Parade of Homes. While other builders are also acceptable, the preferred builders have reputations for quality and design that are difficult to match.
Homes at Swift Creek must be at least 2,200 square feet in size and most are much larger. By the time all phases of Swift Creek are developed, some 400 families will call Swift Creek home.
Home and family is what Swift Creek is all about. In the first of Swift Creek's three parks, families picnic and visit. Parents relax on benches surrounding the play area where their children enjoy a huge sandbox and outdoor play equipment. The water play area features an old-fashioned hand water pump with movable wooden troughs that allow children to redirect the water that they pump.
The water pump play area is just one of many unique quality of life extras found exclusively at Swift Creek. This community includes picnic tables, barbecue grills and a Victorian style gazebo intended for family gatherings.
The nature trail, named "Jason's Trail," meanders through some of the most beautiful woodlands to be found in Okaloosa County. A personal project of Walt Ruckel, Swift Creek's developer, Jason's Trail is deigned to give Swift Creek residents a special place to be outdoors, close to nature, where they can experience the richness and wonder of the property that has been in Walt's family since the early 1900s. Once completed, the wood-chip path, complemented by several footbridges and boardwalks, will measure 3.7 miles in length. It will have several places for residents to begin and end their explorations. Tree identification markers, exercise stations and rest stops add to the Jason Trail experience.
Other amenities to come include two community parks for family events and Swift Creek activities, a large pond, swimming pool, and tennis courts. Residents do not pay additional fees to use the tennis and swimming facilities, which are private and will not be open to the general public.
Great attention to detail has been paid to such things as sidewalks, streetlights, coordinating mailboxes, street signs and even trash containers. While Swift Creek is certainly isolated in its natural country setting, it's close to schools, Okaloosa-Walton Community College, shopping and medical facilities.
Buyers at Swift Creek have peace of mind when it comes to the future of their community and its upkeep. Swift Creek's developers will never sell out and leave town. The Ruckels are one of Niceville's founding families. They will be here for many generations to come.
With all that Swift Creek has to offer, it's no wonder that it immediately became the area's fastest selling development once homesites went on the market, and was honored by the Building Industry Association with its prestigious APEX Award for best presentation of a planned community. Phase two of Swift Creek is sold out. Several beautiful homesites remain available in phases one and three. Prices for a custom home and lot at Swift Creek start in the upper $200,000's.
